Oral Sedation in Arlington, TX
For patients who want to be relaxed (not unconscious) during dental work - a single pill, taken before your appointment, that takes the edge off everything.
Calm, comfortable dentistry for anxious patients.
Oral sedation uses a prescription medication (typically a benzodiazepine like Halcion or Ativan) taken about an hour before your appointment. You'll feel drowsy and deeply relaxed but still able to respond and breathe normally.
It's a great fit for patients with moderate dental anxiety, longer or more complex procedures, or anyone who wants the appointment to feel like it flew by. You'll need a ride home - sedation effects last several hours.
Why patients choose Oral Sedation.
Real anxiety relief
For patients who've avoided dental visits for years because of fear, oral sedation can be the difference between treatment and avoidance.
Time feels compressed
A 90-minute procedure feels like 20. Many patients don't remember most of the appointment afterward.
Safe with monitoring
Standard vital-signs monitoring throughout. Established medications with decades of safety data.
No needles, no IVs
Just a pill an hour before your appointment. No additional injections or IV access needed.
Oral Sedation questions, answered.

Will I be unconscious?
No - oral sedation is "conscious sedation." You'll be deeply relaxed, possibly drowsy enough to nap, but you can respond if we ask you to open wider or turn your head. Full unconsciousness requires IV sedation or general anesthesia.
Will I remember the appointment?
Most patients have partial or no memory of the appointment afterward. This amnesic effect is one of the reasons oral sedation works well for anxious patients.
Can I drive afterward?
No - you'll need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for several hours. The medication lasts longer than the procedure.
Is it safe with my other medications?
We review your full medication list and medical history before prescribing. Some medications interact - we may adjust the sedation choice or refer for IV sedation in those cases.
Can I eat before taking the sedation pill?
Light meal at least 2 hours before, then nothing until your appointment. Specific instructions provided when we prescribe.
