What is it?

Healthy mouths start with consistency, not crisis.

Preventive dentistry is the discipline of catching problems before they become procedures. A 30-minute cleaning every six months prevents the cavities, gum disease, and bone loss that drive most of the expensive dental work people end up needing later.

Every preventive visit at MSD includes a hygiene cleaning, an oral cancer screening, gum health check, and the appropriate x-rays based on your history. We focus on what's changing — not just what's wrong today.

Why choose us

Why patients choose Preventive Dentistry.

Catch issues early

A small cavity treated this year is a $200 filling. Ignored, it's a $799 root canal next year. Prevention is the cheapest dentistry.

Brighter, fresher smile

Professional cleanings remove the surface stains and hard tartar that no toothbrush can reach.

Whole-body health

Gum disease is linked to heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Healthy gums protect more than your mouth.

Family-friendly visits

Three dentists on staff means we can usually book the whole household in one visit.

New Patient Special

$129 first visit — exam, x-rays, and cleaning

Includes a complete set of x-rays, comprehensive exam, and a regular adult cleaning (prophy). For uninsured new patients. If you're not eligible for a regular cleaning, x-rays + exam only is $79.

Frequently asked

Preventive Dentistry questions, answered.

Tap a question to expand the answer.

How often should I get a cleaning?

Most adults need a cleaning every 6 months. If you have a history of gum disease, heavy plaque buildup, or a higher-risk medical condition (diabetes, immune issues), we may recommend every 3–4 months instead.

Are dental x-rays safe?

Yes. Modern digital x-rays use up to 90% less radiation than the film x-rays of 20 years ago. A full set of dental x-rays is roughly equivalent to a few days of background radiation from everyday life.

What's the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?

A regular cleaning (prophy) removes plaque and tartar above the gumline — for healthy mouths. A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) removes buildup below the gumline and is needed when gum disease has caused pockets to form. Your dentist will let you know which you need.

Do you accept my insurance?

We're in-network with most major PPO carriers — Delta Dental, Cigna, Aetna, MetLife, BCBS, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, and more. See the full list →

My gums bleed when I brush — should I be worried?

Bleeding gums are an early sign of gingivitis (the first stage of gum disease) and are reversible with consistent care. If you've noticed bleeding for more than a couple of weeks, book a visit — we'll assess and put together a plan.
